2011-2012 - Goal Setting Form

1.                  Goal (measurable)  College and Career Readiness

Steps to Achieve Goal

Introduce our 7th and 8th grade students to various science careers by guest speakers, college visits, and special projects.

            Evidence of Achievement

One group of 8th graders was brought to GE Healthcare to learn about careers in the company.  The lack of funds for field trips limited other opportunities.

2.                  Goal (measurable)  Assessment

Steps to Achieve Goal

Create and implement a quarterly assessment and analyze the data for student progress

            Evidence of Achievement

5 new summative assessments were given this year:  a benchmark test at the beginning of the year prior to instruction, quarterly tests at the end of each quarter except 4th, and a final exam at the end of the year.  The final exam was identical to the benchmark test.

3.                  Goal (measurable)  RTI

Steps to Achieve Goal

Implement new RTI strategies in the science classroom.

            Evidence of Achievement

Students were allowed retakes on tests after failing.  They had to show they did something to better prepare for the test the second time.  Items that students scored poorly on assessments were reviewed during daily Questioning and assessed again on the next test.  Scores for those items generally rose.
Students were also provided additional materials as needed to gain additional practice.  Students that were unsuccessful with an assignment were encouraged to work on an assignment until it was completed proficiently.  Students were often verbally tutored and quizzed on material to ensure proficiency.
