Trinity was tested on July 16,1945. Later manifestations of this project Little Boy and Fat Man would be dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan which would wreck millions of lives and cause many problems such as birth defects which are still around today. After the demonstrations of his dangerous weapons he began to refer to himself as The Destroyer Of Worlds . His later project would be with the AEC, this project would be a race with the Soviet Union to create the H-Bomb. Oppenheimer was severely against the use of such power, so opposed that he tried to make the government promise to use it as a last resort. This opposition eventually led to a security hearing from the AEC. The outcome of the hearing was that Oppenheimer was to be stripped of his security clearance despite the testimonies of his fellow scientists. In 63 President Johnson tried to readdress the outcome by awarding the Enrico Fermi Award. The hearing ended his professional career. He was still relied upon for advice but not taken seriously in the eyes of his peers. His last real professional event would be a visit to Japan. Seeing as he was solely responsible for tearing their country apart it would have been most likely that he was greeted with hatred, instead the Japanese people greeted him with open arms which was a huge step for humanity. Robert Oppenheimer Mr. Beiter Science 8 June 8,2009 Born April 22nd,1904 in New York, New York to Julius Oppenheimer, a wealthy textile trader, and Ella Friedman, a painter J. Robert Oppenheimer was a theoretical physicist who influenced many lives over the course of his. Oppenheimer s first college was Harvard in 1922. In just 3 years he graduated summa cum laude(1925). He then went to England to study in the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge. Then in 1926, Oppenheimer went to Gottingen, Germany to study under Max Born. During his time there he made many breakthroughs on the newly developed Quantum Theory. His most famous publication was the Born-Oppenheimer Approximation. After all of his hard work Oppenheimer received his PhD. at the age of 22.In 1927 he would return to Harvard to study mathematical physics. In 28 he did some slight studying at Caltech(California Institute Of Technology) he than accepted a assistant professorship at Berkeley. When the Manhattan Project began he was appointed director of the science branch of the project. His lab was founded at an old private school at Los Alamos, New Mexico. He later named his lab Los Alamos. His team on the project was several eminent physicists that he knew. During his work with the government many occasions arose where he was accused of being a communist which was a serious problem. Most of this concern was with the AEC(Atomic Energy Commission) and not the Manhattan Project. One such incident, the Chevalier Incident, where a Soviet representative tried to persuade some scientists to hand over secrets of the nuclear weapon to the U.S.S.R., further damaged his reputation with the government. The first test of a nuclear explosion was as designated2@NXz„¤¦ÆÈÒø ®ØÚXZÂÄ68¨ªðòôöøúüøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøøø̤̤(2‚"'(Š  Û) @·S ,12‚"'(Š  Û) @·S 1Þøü°ÚVZÀÄ48¦ªîòôöøúüÞ²†V†² ² ² ² ² ²ôô("$Š 086 "ˆ¶$Š 08."ÿ0 "PS$Š 08, "PS$Š 08, "ˆ¶$Š 08"$Š 08 (§TSHÿÿÿÿ$(§TSH "ð" "ttüü \0§ONT 0LTimes New Roman Arial BlackArial ÿÿm â U z "@">"þÿÿÿ "3 "8 "7 "" " " " " ""7ê’`’úlÜ>http://www.english.illinois.edu/MAPS/poets/a_f/ai/aboutopp.htm3http://www.atomicarchive.com/Bios/Oppenheimer.shtml8http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/databank/entries/baoppe.html7http://www.thocp.net/biographies/oppenheimer_robert.htm"http://www.doug-long.com/oppie.htmÿz " " "Fÿÿÿ"\²"€‘"ÑV"wy"ð` "ð`""A."@ÿÿÿ"\²"ðù"ÑV"wy"ð` "ð`".""Øp"Øp tists.
